Early Morning Accident Interstate 64

Around 0330hrs Engine7-1 and Wagon1, along with Medic7, Medic1 and Rescue1-7 was summoned to Interstate 64 West bound in the area of the 140 mile marker for a reported Auto Accident. Early reports were that a tractor-trailer was overturned blocking the entire roadway and a passenger car had struck the trailer. On arrival Engine 7-1 found a tractor trailer on its side with the driver awake and talking standing inside the truck but unable to get out, and the passengers from the car out walking around. The driver was removed from the tractor-trailer by cutting the windshield out. Eng7-1's crew handled the diesel fuel leak from the tractor trailer while Wagon1's crew assisted with patient packaging. All patients were transported to the hospital for evaluation. Interstate 64 west bound remained closed for several hours until heavy wreckers could upright the tractor trailer. Wagon1 was released from the scene around 0630hrs.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the Louisa area on Tuesday, August 23, at 1:51p.m. (EDT), causing moderate shaking and potentially significant damage, and was felt throughout the east coast. There have been several aftershocks felt through out the area.
