Louisa Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.

Company 1

The Louisa Volunteer Fire Department was organized in 1924.  The Department is a non-profit organization providing the Town of Louisa and the County of Louisa with needed volunteer firefighting personnel, assets and resources.  Trained and qualified volunteers provide firefighting and emergency support services.  We operate out of one station that is located in the center of a mixed urban/suburban/rural area.

The Department proudly protects over 8000 persons living in our first due area of 91 square miles.  Our first-due area, though predominantly rural, also includes the Town of Louisa, three shopping centers, a length of Interstate 64, an industrial park with five different manufacturers of various plastic products and an airport (Louisa County Airport - Freeman Field - KLKU) large enough to handle small business jets. We provide second and third due response to our neighboring six county fire departments, along with mutual aid agreements with Orange County and Fluvanna County.

Our firehouses and apparatus have, since the founding of the Department, been paid for with funds raised by the members and from citizens donations.  Our current station, built in 1990, houses ENGINE 1, a 1994 Seagrave Engine; TRUCK 1, a 1997 Pierce Aerial; ATTACK 1, a 2000 Pierce 4WD Engine; TANKER 1, a 2002 Pierce;   WAGON 1, a 2007 Pierce Mini-pumper; BRUSH 1, a 2007 GMC Pick-up; SUPPORT 1, a 1995 Chevrolet Pick-up; SALVAGE 1, a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban; and CAR 1, a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe.  Additionally the Department has the first fire apparatus that was purchased new, a 1935 Ford Seagrave Pumper.

In recognizing that volunteers donate indispensable personal time to the citizens of the county, training and work details are designed to match and maximize such time so that the long and rich history of citizen-volunteer-emergency responders in Louisa County continues.  Whether it is fighting fires, providing emergency services, or simply helping the community when a disaster strikes, Company One is ready.
